What We Do

SOSNOLA believes that when parents and community members are informed and connected around common concerns and a shared vision, they will be effective advocates for equity and excellence in public education. Based on this belief, SOSNOLA builds parent and citizen demand for equal access to excellent public schools in three specific ways:

Create an Informed Community

SOSNOLA acquires, translates, and disseminates reliable information about the local public education system, individual public schools, best practices, and research findings regarding policies, practices, and plans for our community. We provide helpful tools, analysis and guidance to increase parents’ and residents’ ability to understand and effectively act on the information.

Build a Constituency

SOSNOLA builds a constituency of informed public school parents, residents, and partner organizations concerned about public school inequities and poor quality programs, services, systems and facilities. We organize workshops and meetings that connect community members to information and issues; and that forge coalitions and collaborations to demand policy and system change.

Advocate for Policy and Systems Change

SOSNOLA and our constituents advocate for educational and municipal policy and practice reform that implements greater equity and excellence for all students, public schools, and public education systems in New Orleans. We work to develop a strong advocacy agenda that advances parent and community engagement and perspective, and builds a greater public demand for equal access to better schools.
